Prof. Zhendong Sun

Zhendong Sun, Ph.D., is a researcher and doctoral supervisor, and a recipient of the National Distinguished Young Scholar award. He was selected for the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ “Hundred Talents Program.” In 1990, he earned his bachelor’s degree from the Department of Applied Mathematics at Qingdao Ocean University. He completed his master’s degree in 1993 at the Department of Systems Science, Xiamen University, and obtained his Ph.D. in 1996 from the Seventh Research Laboratory at Beihang University. From 1996 to 1998, he conducted postdoctoral research in the Department of Automation at Tsinghua University. From 1998 to 2002, he served as an associate professor in the School of Science at Beihang University. During this period, he spent a year each as a research associate at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Australia. From 2002 to 2005, he was appointed as a senior research associate at the Hamilton Institute, National University of Ireland Maynooth (NUIM). In 2005, he joined the School of Automation at South China University of Technology as a professor and was approved as a doctoral supervisor in 2006. Since 2012, he has served as a researcher at the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences. His research focuses on hybrid control design for complex dynamic systems, micro/nano sensing and control for biomedical engineering applications, and autonomous control and cooperative optimization of multi-agent systems. As the first author, he has completed two academic monographs published by Springer and has published 25 papers in international academic journals, 20 of which appeared in IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control and Automatica.

Zhang Hui, born in 1983, holds a Ph.D., is a Second-Class Professor and doctoral supervisor. He serves as the Dean of the College of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics at Hunan University, the Dean of the College of Future Technology at Hunan University, and the Deputy Director of the National Engineering Research Center for Visual Perception and Control Technology. He has been selected for the National High-Level Talent Program. His academic appointments include being a member of the expert group for the Ministry of Science and Technology’s “14th Five-Year Plan” Key Special Project on Intelligent Robotics, a Standing Council Member of the Chinese Association of Automation, and a Council Member and Deputy Secretary-General of the China Society of Image and Graphics. His primary research focuses on robotic visual inspection, deep learning-based image recognition, and intelligent manufacturing robotics technologies and their applications.In recent years, he has led over 20 major research projects, including those under the national “Science and Technology Innovation 2030 – New Generation Artificial Intelligence” Megaproject, key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, key projects under the JW1XX Program, and sub-projects of the National Key R&D Program. He has published 66 papers in prestigious international and domestic journals such as the IEEE Transactions series, been granted 52 national invention patents, and holds 11 software copyrights.

Yang Chenguang, Professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Automation Science and Engineering, South China University of Technology, IEEE Fellow. He currently serves as the Director of the Guangdong Provincial Engineering Technology Research Center for Intelligent System Control and holds the position of Chair Professor in Robotics in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Liverpool, UK. In 2010, he earned his Ph.D. from the National University of Singapore. His research focuses on robotic control systems, human-robot collaboration technologies, and skill learning.

As the principal investigator, Yang Chenguang has led national-level projects such as “Research on Human-Robot Collaboration Mechanisms and Control Strategies for Intelligent Production Lines,” for which he received the 2021 Guangdong Provincial Natural Science Award (Second Prize). His team’s research on Dynamic Movement Primitive (DMP) models and adaptive control technology was recognized with the 2022 IEEE TNNLS Best Paper Award. Additionally, the mixed-reality virtual human-machine teaching system developed by his team has been granted an invention patent and applied in the field of industrial manufacturing.

Wang Xianpeng, male, Han ethnicity, member of the Communist Party of China, currently serves as Dean and Professor of the School of Information and Communication Engineering at Hainan University. He is a doctoral supervisor and master’s supervisor in Information and Communication Engineering, as well as a master’s supervisor in the Electronic Information program. He received his bachelor’s degree in Automation from Harbin Engineering University in 2009 and earned his Ph.D. in Navigation, Guidance, and Control from the same institution in 2014. From 2015 to 2016, he conducted postdoctoral research at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.

In 2016, he joined Hainan University as a high-level talent (Category D) and assumed his current position in 2021. His research primarily focuses on marine information perception and processing technologies, array signal processing, and related fields. He has led over 10 research projects, including key programs under the National Key R&D Program and projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. The technological achievement titled “Key Technologies and Applications of Multi-source Information Collaborative Perception and Fusion for Nearshore Environmental Monitoring Systems,” developed under his leadership, has been deployed and applied around Hainan Island, contributing to the establishment of a nearshore security and monitoring system.

Prof. Yu Liu (Senior Member, IEEE) received the Ph.D. degree in automatic control from South China University of Technology, Guangzhou, China, in 2009.,He was a Visiting Student with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Concordia University, Montreal, QC, Canada, from 2008 to 2009; and a Visiting Scholar with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Lincoln, NE, USA, from 2017 to 2018. He is currently a Professor with the School of Automation Science and Engineering, South China University of Technology, and also with the Research and Development Center of Precision Electronic Manufacturing Technology, Guangzhou Institute of Modern Industrial Technology, Guangzhou. His current research interests include robotics, intelligent control system, and machine vision.,Dr. Liu is currently an Associate Editor of IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics, IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems, IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems, and IEEE Transactions on Computational Social Systems.
