Foshan is one of the birthplaces and prosperous areas of Lingnan Guangfu culture, with numerous characteristic traditional cultures. In terms of Cantonese opera culture, Foshan is the birthplace of Cantonese opera and the birthplace of the earliest Cantonese opera organization, Qionghua Guild Hall. In 2009, Cantonese opera was included in the “Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity”. In terms of martial arts culture, Foshan is the main birthplace of southern martial arts and the only “City of Martial Arts” in China. Wing Chun, Choi Lei Fut, Hung Gar, etc. originated here, and martial arts masters such as Wong Fei-hung and Ip Man are also native to Foshan. Regarding dragon boat culture, Foshan is the first “Famous City of Dragon Boat and Lion Dance in China”, Nanhai District is the “Hometown of Dragon Boat in China”, and Shunde District is the “Hometown of Dragon Boat in the Whole Country”. In lion dance culture, Foshan is the birthplace of southern lion dance. Chancheng District and Nanhai District have both been awarded the title of “Hometown of Chinese Lion Dance”. In pottery culture, Foshan’s pottery has a long history and remarkable achievements. In terms of craftsmanship culture, in ancient times, industries such as ceramics and textiles in Foshan were prosperous, with superb handicraft skills. In terms of food culture, Foshan is one of the birthplaces of Cantonese cuisine and has been rated as a “Famous City of Cantonese Cuisine in China”. Shunde District has been awarded the title of “City of Gastronomy in the World”. In addition, there are Autumn Color culture, Ancestral Temple culture, etc., with numerous national and provincial representative intangible cultural heritage items.
